PRIVACY

Asteroid Wars is a free multiplayer game in your browser, in early access. It's run by Sublime Bytes LLC ("we"). This page says what we collect when you play, why, who else sees it, and what you can ask us to do with it. Questions, or anything on this page you'd like us to act on: play@asteroidwars.com.
The short version
- We collect your email address to sign you in and keep cheaters out. We never sell or share it.
- Your username, your stats and your syndicate are public: that's what leaderboards are.
- We don't run ads, analytics or trackers, and we don't record voice chat.
- Email us and we'll delete your account.
What we collect
Your account
- Your email address. We send it a six-digit code each time you sign in (there are no passwords). One account per address is part of how we keep banned players out.
- Your username, and an avatar picture if you upload one.
- Your settings on the hub, such as whether others can see when you were last online.
Your play
- Match results: the matches you've played and won, your kills and deaths, the ore you mined, and the trophies they earn. These make the leaderboards.
- Your syndicate, friends and parties: which syndicate you're in and its scrip, who you've added as a friend, the people you've recently played with, and the parties you make.
- Fair play numbers. To catch cheating, the game server counts things about each match you play, such as how many of your shots hit, how often your aim was on an enemy you couldn't see, and how quickly you hit someone after they came into view. These are kept with your account for people to review. Nothing is decided automatically from them.
When you're connected
- Your IP address reaches our servers, as it does any website, and appears in their logs. The logs are rotated out as they fill, usually within days.
- Text chat is passed to the other players in your match (or your squad or side) as you send it. We don't keep a history of it after the match.
- Voice chat is passed through our voice server to the players who can hear you, live. It isn't recorded or stored.
What's public
Your username, avatar, syndicate and match stats show on the leaderboards, in live game lists and in the game itself. Players on the hub can see when you're online and which game you're in, unless you hide that in your hub settings. Your email address is never shown to anyone.
Cookies and storage
We use one cookie, aw_session, which keeps you signed in. Your browser also keeps your sign-in
tokens and a few game settings (sound levels, controls) in its local storage. There are no advertising or
tracking cookies, and none from anyone else.
Who else handles it
- Amazon Web Services runs our servers, stores our database and its backups, delivers the game's files, and sends the sign-in emails (Amazon SES). It's all in the United States.
- Google Fonts serves the site's typefaces, so Google sees your IP address when a page loads them.
- Discord, if you follow our link to it. That's Discord's service, under its own policy.
We don't sell your information, and we don't share it with anyone else except where the law requires it.
How long we keep it
Your account and its history are kept until you ask us to delete them. Copies in our backups are gone within 35 days after that. If we ban an account for cheating, we may keep its email address so the same person can't simply sign up again.
What you can ask
You can ask us for a copy of what we hold about you, to correct it, or to delete your account, by emailing play@asteroidwars.com from the address you sign in with. You can change your username, avatar and online visibility yourself on the hub.
Children
Asteroid Wars isn't meant for children under 13, and we don't knowingly let them make an account. If you think a child under 13 has one, tell us and we'll delete it.
Changes
As the game grows this page will change. We'll update the date at the top, and tell you on the site or by email if a change is a big one.
